Dansk Tatovering (Danish Tattoing)
by Jon Nordstrom
Imported directly from Denmark with text in Danish and English, this thick, 296-photo book is filled with vintage tattoo flash, newspaper archive articles, and hundreds of some of the greatest old-time tattoo scenes and photographs that have ever been collected into one volume. The rich visual history of Danish Tattooing from 1895 to present is covered, notably including the 1960's "golden-age" of tattooing in Denmark which was famous for its extremely rough crowd.
Images and articles animate larger-than-life characters (such as old-school Danish tattoo legends Tattoo Ole, Tattoo Peter, and John Larsen up to present-day Scandinavian tattoo masters Henning Jorgensen and Copenhagen's Uncle Allan) along with tattooing hot spots like the "raw Nyhavn" (where sailors and drunk Swedes got their tattoos) and the even rougher "Istedgade" (which developed into a new tattooing hub in the 1980s).
