The 2000 Dragons painting was created to mark the millennium which was also the year of the dragon in the Asian zodiac. The painting was a major undertaking as it measured 500 feet long X 55 inches wide. Also, Hardy used no preliminary drawings or sketches and painted the piece spontaneously in 5 foot sections until it was completed.
